Vietnamese Longan & Lotus Seed Dessert Soup (Chè Hạt Sen)

How to make Vietnamese longan & lotus seed dessert soup, or Chè Hạt Sen! This is super simple and satisfying to make! The longans provide a natural sweetness already, and the lotus seeds add an addicting texture to this dessert soup. You can also adjust sweetness to however you like. : )

🍵 Dried Longan & Lotus Seed Sweet Soup

👩‍🍳 Directions

  1. Soak lotus seeds in boiling water for 3 minutes, then remove from heat and drain.
  2. Rinse dried longans and soak them in water for a few minutes.
  3. In a pot, boil the longans in water with 1 tbsp brown sugar. Let it simmer for 8–10 minutes until they expand. Adjust sweetness to taste. Remove from heat and let cool.
  4. In a separate pot, bring water to a boil and add the lotus seeds with ½ tbsp palm sugar. Simmer for about 10 minutes until soft. Remove from heat and let cool.
  5. To serve, scoop both longans and lotus seeds into a cup or bowl. Enjoy warm or chilled!
